Well done to HCJB for the following news:
Building on the success of last year’s co-operation with London radio station LBC 97.3, Whistling Frog Productions has once again created an exciting opportunity for the gospel to be heard by devotees of the new age. LBC’s popular Friday night Psychic Show will have a new twist on May 25th as the phone lines are opened up to three different spiritual ‘experts’ – a Christian, a psychic, and an astrologer – who will each be given the chance to offer help and advice to callers. The programme will be advertised as ‘The Mind Body Spirit Challenge’.
The Psychic Show already has regular weekly opportunities for callers to receive life guidance from their resident medium, as well as from a whole host of other new age practitioners. But what listeners have never had before is the opportunity to receive direct help and guidance from a Christian, who will be using prayer and Bible passages to bring the light of God’s love into the programme.
The Christian ‘expert’ will be Church Army Evangelist Steve Hollinghurst. Steve is Researcher in Evangelism to Post-Christian Culture based at the Sheffield Centre, and is also a member of the team running the Christian ‘Dekhomai’ stand at the London ‘Mind Body Spirit Festival’ from which the programme takes its name.
This year’s Festival, to be held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in Victoria from the 23rd to the 28th May, is a diverse collection of belief systems and new age practitioners all under one roof. The Dekhomai stand will be offering healing prayer from the Christian tradition, meditation, and resources on Christian spirituality. Steve Hollinghurst has a wealth of experience interacting with people involved in the new age, and was a guest on the 2006 Psychic Show Christmas Special, also produced by Whistling Frog Productions. Additional interviews and reports from the floor of this year’s Mind Body Spirit Festival will be provided by Premier Radio presenter Justin Brierley.
Whistling Frog Productions is a ministry of HCJB-UK. Colin Lowther, Head of Programmes at Whistling Frog Productions and HCJB-UK Director, commented,
“This is a unique opportunity for LBC listeners to compare the claims of Christianity alongside the new age ideas they hear about every week on the Psychic Show. We want these listeners to see that being a Christian isn’t just a set of intellectual beliefs, it actually makes a difference!”
Christians from all over the UK will be praying for Steve Hollinghurst on May 25th, and there is a special prayer gathering in Bradford at the studios of HCJB-UK on the night. Lowther said,
“Please pray with us that these listeners – who are already open to the existence of the supernatural – will hear something about Jesus that will change their lives forever.”
The Psychic Show is one of the most popular programmes on LBC (‘London’s Big Conversation’) and is broadcast every Friday night from 10pm until 1am to an audience of around 92,000 people. LBC can be heard on FM in London, and countrywide on DAB digital radio and the Internet at http://www.lbc.co.uk/.
