I recently turned on the radio half way through an interview and overheard someone say the following:
‘The trouble is that most Christians are Bible worshippers, rather than Jesus worshippers. Â We need to remember that the Bible is the menu, but Jesus is the meal.’

July 9, 2007 at 2:15 amInteresting comment, and I do agree. One of the most influential teachings that has affected my growth and life as a Christian and infact still holds me today is one which says, ‘the Bible is not the word of God’, the Bible contains the ‘word of God’. I think its an amazing truth, because the word of God is not words on paper, but it is alive and powerful, it is spirit and life, sharper than any 2 edged sword and has the power to create. Its the word that lives in us, not on the pages of the Bible. I love the Bible, but I carry the Word, because Jesus is the Word, and He works in me. After I heard this, my relationship with the Bible was enriched, and I was hungry to find God in the pages of the 66 books. I believe and uphold the place of the Bible in my Christian growth and understanding, as the valid container for the Word, but the Word is much more than just a book which to be honest is a collection of history, stories, narratives etc. all which point to Jesus. I could go on forever about this, it is facinating and liberating.
